The History of 2C
Colorado Springs’ road improvement program, known as 2C, enters its tenth year of funding this year. Over the last decade, we have repaved ⅓ of the city’s roads, while often delivering safer and smoother roads under budget and ahead of schedule.
Because of 2C, we enjoy smoother and safer roads and our sidewalks and ramps are more accessible and pedestrian friendly. Keep reading to learn more about how 2C has improved the quality of our roads and our quality of life in Colorado Springs.
Road Improvement by the Numbers:
Over the last 10 years we have made serious progress in improving the quality of roads, sidewalks, and other street infrastructure in Colorado Springs. These improvements have helped decreasehad a huge positive impact on the number of vehicle damage claims submitted to the city, as well as a significantly reducedtion in the number of pothole repair requests submitted annually submitted to the city annually.
The proof is in the pudding. When we invest in our roads, our streets are better for our cars and pedestrians.
How does 2C work?
Just like our cars need regular oil changes and maintenance, our roads also require routine care. We make sure to keep up with the regular maintenance on our car, because we all know that routine care is much cheaper than the costs of catastrophic repairs if we don’t keep up with our vehicle’s service. The same is true of our roads. Over the last ten years, 2C has saved taxpayers (insert dollar here) in road repairs.
Continuing 2C will continue to improve the condition of our roads while sparing taxpayers the costs of catastrophic road repairs that come when we don’t maintain our streets.
What kind of tax is 2C?
2C is funded by our local sales tax. The benefit of funding our roads through a sales tax is that it makes sure that every visitor and tourist who comes to Colorado Springs pays their fair share for using our roads and streets while they enjoy all our city has to offer.
